1984 and the Patriot Act

Quick Write:
I don't think Winston world will occur today. People won't let the government take control of their every move. Their will be people who will stand up for themselves.

Final Reflection:
Winston Smith's and the lawyer's experience connect. The government both was in the privacy personal things. I feel like everybody gets profiled unfairly. People will assume something just by the way you look. The government should balance the right to privacy with the need for national security. Its good that they have security for just in case something bad happens. But we also need our privacy. I think that they shouldn't always be listening to our conversation, email, or text all the time. If they have proved that something is wrong then they could but if not they shouldn't be all the time in our privacy personal stuff.

What connections can you make between Winston Smith's experience and the lawyer's? Do you feel you ever were profiled unfairly or was there a time when you felt your privacy was invaded? Write about it. Finally, explain how the government should balance the right to privacy with the need for national security.

  1. A very astute analysis. People do assume things by the way we look and in 1984, they definitely punish you just for your thoughts!
